Chapter 9 - The Sound of Breaking Up

Waiting for the taxi to pass, I cross the road heading up to Dylan's place. Waking this morning I decided to seize the day! Control my own destiny sort of thing and one of those things was seeing Dylan today, not tomorrow or the day after that, but today.

As I round the corner of his house and approach the front stairs I see a bouquet of 12 beautiful red roses.

Beau is always so romantic with Claire. I bet these are for her. I'll pick them up before knocking on the door. Its getting rather hot out here and maybe Claire just didn't here the delivery boy.

Ah! There's a card attached! Nothing wrong with reading it I suppose. Its just a small card and I doubt it could hold any more letters than Claire's name...

What?! I can't be reading this right!

Oh no! This can't be happening! Not my Dylan....please not my Dylan!

At the exact moment that Lucy's heart felt like it was being ripped from her chest she heard a Kookaburra, sitting high in the tree tops, laugh at some unheard joke in the distance.

The pain was shocking and she felt as though she'd pass out. How could he? I thought he loved ME! This can't be true, and Nicole, with Nicole of all people??? When did this start? Does he love her?

At one point Lucy almost collasped until she heard the sound of a car door slamming and Claire's voice call out to her.

Don't look back Lucy. Just don't look back i told myself.

It took all my resolve to just walk away when I heard Claire call my name. She said it like she knew what had happened but I could barely keep myself together and it took all my strength to hold my head high and walk, even though I just wanted to sprint home to my mum's arms.

And in the distance the Kookaburra continued to laugh.
