Chapter 15 - Picking Up the Pieces

Lucy had no idea how she was going to wear her hair, except that it had to be up so she could show off the new earrings that she had bought. Emily will love them she surmised and Lucy needed someone to envy her today. Even if it was over a pair of inexpensive earrings.
"Where to start?" she thought.
A dab here....
Some concealer and foundation there....
And a last spray of hairspray there...
And she was done.
Happy with her hair and makeup, Lucy decided a quick call to Emily was on the agenda. Her best friend could be a little 'flighty' at times, so Lucy thought it best to check in first and make sure everything was alright and see whether Emily needed anything from the shops which Lucy could get on her way there.
No matter how dark Lucy's mood, the best thing about Emily is that she could always you laugh. And with her fathers idiotic dancing in the background, Lucy felt her mood begin to lighten for the first time today.
She was looking forward to tonight.
Going to the chest of drawers, Lucy got out the new underwear and dress that she had bought for tonight. She was fast running out of time so hopefully there wouldn't be any problems with the dress.
Emerging from the bedroom, Lucy stood by her parents waiting for their comments on her dress.
"Is it too much red mum? I sort of feel like a christmas decoration" Lucy said.
"Have a wonderful time darling" her father replied.
And like Molly Ringwald in her favourite move 'Pretty in Pink', Lucy thought to herself, "I just want to show the world, that they haven't broken me."
And with that, she left for Emily's lavish house warming party and for whatever the night had install for her.
